In aid of the Matthews Hall Modernisation Appeal

A weekend community celebration of local and locally sourced foods,
taste workshops, live music, and Italian friendship

The Global Village at The Globe:
a programme of taste workshops in The Courtyard of The Globe Hotel

Note: all timings approximate with events taking place in the 'Global Village Courtyard' throughout the day and sometimes simultaneously

11am “Planting seeds for the future” – calling all children: come along to The Globe and plant a seed, take it home, nurture it and bring it back to harvest in August for the Topsham Town Fayre.

11.15am Firing up of the wood oven

11.30 “An Adventure in Taste” – with food writer Natacha Du Pont de Bie. A workshop for children exploring our perceptions of flavour, and the fun of trying and discovering new tastes.

12noon “Raw Chocolate” – a taste workshop with Claire Richards of Leapfrog Foods and Shona Buchan of The Happy Gelateria.

12.30 Dharmendra Gour Singh, Denleys
Essence of India's new 5 star chef, will be preparing a vegetarian special, a special paratha Indian bread and a local seafood dish, Devon mussels with an Indian twist cooked with exotic spices. Fragrant and exotic flavours from India in the heart of Topsham.

Ongoing throughout the day “Seed to Loaf Roadshow” – with organic farmer Ian Shears. See where food comes from by milling wheat, making your own flour, then bread dough, and finally baking a bread roll in a mobile wood-fired oven.

1.15pm Live music - Star Struck

1.45pm The launch of a brand new cheese with Country Cheeses of Topsham and Tavistock; also raclette being cooked in the wood-burning oven

2-3pm The Italian connection: demonstrations of handmaking tajarin noodles with Fulvio Siccardi, one-star Michelin chef; and bonet, a traditional pudding from Le Langhe with Luisa Fontana

3pm Live music - Star Struck

3.15pm A taste of France with the Quay Brasserie
Preparing of Coriander Olive Oil
Curing your own bacon – (bring your own pig – husbands accepted)
Preparing French Dressing & mayonnaise

3.30pm Sausage-making demonstration with Tony from Arthur’s Butchers

3-4.30pm "Open Oven" – some events have an "open mike". The Topsham Food Festival has an "open oven" – local chefs have been invited to come along and cook in The Globe's new wood-burning oven. Guest chefs from The Fish Shed, Denley's Essence of India, Quay Brasserie, Petite Maison and others.
