Nello's Longest Table Sunday June 3rd, 2012

STOP PRESS: Radio Exe 107.3 FM will be broadcasting proceedings direct from Nello's Longest Table - it is important to bring along a portable radio for your table so that you can join in the toast, listen to interviews and general revelry, and enjoy a mellow selection of tunes with DJ Paul Nero.

Don't have a transistor radio? Both Havills and Westaways in Topsham have special Festival radio offers

Sky News are also planning their evening global newcast live from Topsham with updates going around the world about our Topsham Jubilee festivities!

As part of the weekend celebrations for the Topsham Food Festiva and as part of celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, the highlight of the weekend will be Nello’s Longest Table, an evening celebration of food and friends in memory of Nello Ghezzo. For it was originally Nello’s idea to create an occasion whereby our whole community can sit down together to enjoy meals prepared from local and locally sourced foods at a single table stretching the entire length of Topsham Fore Street, on to Topsham Quay, and along the Underway at Ferry Road.

To achieve this, as in previous years, Fore Street will be closed to traffic and parking from the afternoon of Sunday June 3rd in order to set up the tables. We hope that this won’t inconvenience residents and businesses too much. Indeed, we hope that everyone will join in the celebrations in what will be Topsham’s biggest ever street party.

The idea is really very simple. As in previous years we - our whole community - will put togther an incredibly long table comprising some 350 smaller tables all in a line. We're selling tables (£25 per table of six - all proceeds to the Festival fund). It will be up to you to bring your friends and family, as well as the food (locally sourced of course - that is from our excellent Topsham food and drink shops and Darts Farm). You will also need to bring your own chairs. Once the whole street is set up, we'll all sit down and enjoy together an amazing communal feast!

For those who would like to come but don't want to reserve a whole table, there will be spaces reserved for singles and couples (£5 per person) - ask Liz for further details.

Tables should be ready for you from around 4pm.They will be numbered and have your name on it.

Please be ready for “pre dinner drinks” at 5pm ready to start the Feast at 6pm. There will be an official toast to Her Majesty the Queen at 6.05 followed by the singing of the National Anthem (please make sure and bring a transistor radio tuned in to Radio Exe 107.3FM). Then the party begins!

Please note that tables will be set up as close to the position on the plan as possible, but please be aware that there maybe some flexibility required as they may not be in the exact position requested.

All proceeds from the Topsham Food Festival will go Topsham Food Festival Fund in aid of the Topsham Community Association, Force Cancer Charity and the Topsham Shop Local campaign.
